| 内容記述 | Obesity in childhood is a growing public health problem in developed countries. Therefore, there is a need for an accurate assessment of the body composition of children. The total body water (TBW) measured by isotope dilution techniques is used to assess the body composition both safely and accurately in children. However, this method is not ready available for most research projects as the equipment need for this modality is complicated and highly specialized. On the other hand, a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is an attractive technique for the in vivo assessment of body composition because it is simple, quick, inexpensive, and noninvasive. However, the main limitation regarding the general applicability of BIA is the availability of appropriately calibrated, cross-validated predictive equations. Therefore, this review attempts to provide the requisite information regarding the body composition techniques and prediction equations for children using the BIA based on the isotope dilution technique. | |||||
